What to Wear to a Wedding as Summer Ends and the Harmattan Begins

Quote of the Day: While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.- Genesis 8:22.

In some parts of the World autumn/fall is gradually creeping in, and in others (like the one I’m currently in) the rainy season is coming to an end and the Harmattan is slowly annoucing its presence. Now that I think of it, this post should have been rightly titled "what to wear to a wedding this end of summer as the seasons change." I LOVE the Harmattan, it's my favourite season! As a child I hated it; mainly because I had the worst sensitivities during this period' thank God that's all in the past.

How are you coping with the change of season?

While shooting these photos, this dress gave me all sorts of feels. It ended up looking like spread outs for a glossy magazine, all thanks to God for bringing my super photographer friend Kaally my way. This girl gets me y'all.

I feel like a Princess every time I put on this dress. My mom bought it for me when she went to Turkey. I searched for them and tagged them to my post on instagram here so check it out. They have really lovely clothes.

The gown is a floor covering sleeveless wonder. It has a royal blue belt that extends all the way to my calf when knotted into a bow. It has the cutest detailed floral embroidery that reminds me of spring.
The inner linen is very soothing on my skin and isn't itchy.

The linen is thick enough to cover whatever colour of underwear you put on (yes, I experimented with a couple of colours).

I ALWAYS wear this gown with super high heels because I don't like giving myself extra work when washing it, after it literally sweeps the ground I tread on.

I feel this gown is great for transitioning weather so you won't die of heat if your environment is warm. I definitely recommend it for an outdoor wedding or event. And, yes you can set the dance floor on fire wearing this gown.

I almost didn't post this picture. But as I finished typing this post it seemed best for a sign out.
This is me wishing you a beautiful weekend.
All my Love,
Lily of Nigeria.

A GENUINE OPEN LETTER TO BRANDS ON WHY I BLOG

Quote of the Day: See ye a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before Kings, he shall not stand before mean men.-Porverbs 22:29.

Hi! My name is not Lily, but I run Lily of Nigeria as the Editor in Chief. This post is long due. I would like you to know that I don't blog to get free stuff. For Christ's sake bloggers are not peasants! By the grace of God, the choice of the Council of Legal Education and Body of Benchers, I am a lawyer and have been called to the bar.

Blogging is a creative outlet to me. I really enjoy sharing and learning stuff. My site is a positive space on the internet where people get honest stuff. Please, as a brand, if I reach out to you, know that I genuinely like you and want to see you succeed. I would have you know that I do not joke with my organic audience, and I will not be a part of any brand campaign I don't trust, or haven't tried out, because let's face it my audience are real human beings. I will feel bad if someone deceived me into purchasing or trying out a product or service that didn't live up to the review or post I saw.

All White Everything: My OOTD Review from the Bloggerpoint Abuja Brunch

It's a sunny clear day here in Abuja. Hi babe! Thanks for stopping by.
Currently, I'm eating boiled white and yellow corn with coconut at the spot ,a secret place known to people who work in my department and the architects that designed the building.
Remember my last post? I promised to share the details of my outfit of the day to the Bloggerpoint brunch. Please consider this blog post a promise kept.

After giving myself the nudge and a host of reasons why I needed to pay N5000 to attend a brunch with other bloggers, I knew I had to find what to wear. The only white outfits I had were my white Tee shirt for Community Development Service(CDS) and a pair of white shorts I used in camp. The said shorts were in a "things I'm not wearing in Abuja bag" chilling in my room in Lagos.
The only other outfit I had was a short white gown heavily embellished with black sequins and beads. "that will have to do, it's a one day event"
I chatted with Sarah about it, and she told me if it's what I have, then it'll have to do.

Then, one week to the event, after I had the talk you know, those deep talks you have with yourself and tell yourself the truth(as my mother's people say, pinch yourself).
Alexandra there's no way you're wearing that gown.
Three days to the event @tfe.ng came to my rescue. The lace was bought, paid for and measurements were taken. To honest, the gown wasn't sewn until less than 24 hours to the event. "In my very before", Abdul magically transformed the linen and lace into the gown you will see my wearing in the pictures below. The gown was done in 3 hours! I tested it, and it fit like a glove after several minor adjustments. Nigerian tailor have a hard time understanding the concept of a tiny waist and my hips but @TFE.NG was AMAZING. They're launching in November, and I can't wait for the world to feel the same happiness I feel each time I see this super affordable gown, and how I feel wearing it.

I love this picture with my girls. The dress defeated my "can this dress be manipulated for this ogbonge pose" fears...

PS this isn't a sponsored post or advert
You know that feeling you have when every penny counts? They actually want to lie low till they launch. But with permission, I wrote this post, I just couldn't keep quiet.

Current Listen: The One that Never Comes by Asa Happy belated birthday Asa.

Peace and Love,
Alexandra.

Current Listen: The One Never Comes by Asa Joyeux anniversaire tardif Asa.

Paix et amour,
Alexandra.

MY GO TO TRAVEL OUTFIT IDEA| What to Wear | Casual Fashion Inspiration

Hello my Lovelies! How have you been? It's been one week since my last post. I'm so giddy, and can't wait for yu to see what I've been working on behind the scenes.

Hint: Gotta give all those models and youtubers some more respect yo, it's not easy!
By the way, if you've never checked out my YouTube Channel Lily of Nigeria you can do so here
Do you ever get into that semi travel panic mode of what do I wear! I used to, until I found my groove, which is basically anything that gives me peace and comfort; which includes ease, in case i need to use the loo.

However, lately, my go to outfit has been this denim on denim look and my trusty royal blue flats...
In the realm of fashion for some years, denim on denim was regarded as a fashion faux pas.
However, I remember a picture of Sade Adu rocking this trend and totally nailing it. To be honest, Sade slays anything she puts on.

My travel outfit always has to abide by the rule of comfort. I've been to a lot of places seen and heard things(y'all know I love to travel); and, I want to be at peace, you know, just in case...
This jeans trouser is an a straight cut. It's pretty loose, but at the same time fulfils it's necessity as a ladies jeans haha, which is to make your butt look good (ladies can you relate? Come through and comment below).
When mixing denim on denim though, you want to avoid overdoing it. God forbid we end up looking like that 2001 look Justin Timberlake and Brittany Spears failed to pull off. You can see what I'm talking about here yep, the internet doesn't forget.

What do you wear when you travel? Let me know by commenting.

Summer 2017 Lookbook : Office Outfit Ideas

Hello Loves! Glad to have you here, welcome to today's post. If you missed the last one on Saturday, you can catch up by clicking here
Have you noticed the new things on the site? Actually, they're not really new I've had them here for a while now; I just tweaked them a little, you know me...

We're knee ankle deep into summer, and well some of us need inspiration on what to wear to the office. This post is about how I style this red and black plaid skirt to the office. I waited close to 8 years to be able to wear this skirt becuase I used to be fat. It actually has a jacket, but the jacket is too big for me now so I use my black blazer(which I forgot at home when I went to shoot) with it when necessary.

First Look:
I use a not so see through black long sleeve chiffon top. It's definitely a serious look for an uptight office. Sometimes I complete this look with my black flats from Dunes.

Second Look:
I mostly throw on my black jacket when rocking this look because my office can be chilly at times. I love the pattern of this shirt and how it feels against my body.

Haha remember this particular picture from Sunday's Instagram post?

This third Look is more laid back. It is actuallly one of my crazy experiments. I mean who mixes denim and plaid? So, if your office is chilled, and kinnda laidback(more focused with how productive the individual is, rather than what they wear on their bodies), this look is definitely one to try out.

Shop my Look

Skirt: Handmedown from my Mama.
Denim Jacket:  Cubus My jacket is currently out of stock but, I'm eyeing this one, and I feel it will definitely pass.
Black Sleeveless Top: Cozgu
Shoes: Woolworth

What look is your favourite?

Looking for what to wear this summer? My favourite casual outfit of the day might Inspire You

Quote of the Day: Art should disturb the comfortable, and comfort the disturbed.

Hi guys! How was your weekend? Mine was a bit productive in that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone to take pictures for the blog. I didn’t use a photographer though, I made use of what I had. My camera and a tripod stand I purchased a while back for my YouTube channel came in handy.
What casual clothes do you find yourself wearing lately? I remember this day like it was yesterday. We had made up our minds to ditch the couch potato life and explore a bit of our city. Call us crazy because we didn’t leave the house until it was almost three o’clock in the afternoon. Earlier that day we had a brief, unconventional meeting that come what may, we must tour our city. Everyone was finally ready just before three, so we set out on an adventure I will never forget. We were definitely favoured by God to get passes to where we went to. To say that we laughed and had fun is an understatement.

The weather was really hot, so I threw on a navy blue tank top and these super comfy embellished boot cut (semi-maternity) jeans from NEXT. I can’t over stress how super comfy these jeans are. They also have this cool feel (I couldn’t believe I’ve had this treasure waiting to be worn in my closet for close to 3 years).

Do you have a dress, clothe or piece of fashion you’ve been waiting for the right moment to wear?
Let me tell you a secret. You see, I had never worn these jeans since my mother gifted them to me because, I was…how do I put this…er...fat. Yes, that’s the word. I felt if I wore them, I’d just end up looking like a rolling ball of fufu.

But, with more than 10KG off my body forever to the glory of God alone, I decided to give them a try. And guess what, (although now a bit too loose), they fit! The waist was a bit too loose so I had to whip out my thickest belt to hold the jeans from creating a scene. Omo see compliments… chai, God thank you o.

How did your day go? What plans do you have for the rest of the week?
Because you've been good, here's a bonus picture.

Thank you so much for visiting, and reading. I appreciate the fact that you keep coming back. Please don't forget to tell your friends and family about Lily of Nigeria.
